Depending on the application the animal wont know the difference. Its all about what looks best on paper and sometimes thats most of the fun.  :chuckle:

Im just jealous you get to pick one up!

I have the savage lr fluted 6.5x284 and its a great rifle for the money. Not to hi jack the thread but maybe hammer and mountain can tell me their favorite hunting load in 6.5x284 cuz they got the ruler across the back of the hand in my thread on that subject and I never got to ask that specifically. :chuckle: Get along now boys, I can see you all know your stuff and everybody's opinion is valuable here. Thanks and good luck to OP on getting a 6.5, its a bad ass little caliber.

I always play nice :). I used the 6.5-284 primarily for a varmint cartridge. For Rock Chucks and Coyotes. Most guys I shot with for several years there either shot the 6.5-284 or the 6.5-06 Improved for Coyotes and Chucks. None of us really ever cared about punching paper other than to get zero's or work up loads. I would rather spend a day hunting Chucks or Shooting Coyotes and not get anything than spend a day shooting on a range. Hair and fur is where it's at, the paper and steel will always be there.

A shooting partner and I settled on the 95gr V-Max and a appropriate charge of Varget. Great temperature tolerant  stuff for using the same load year round. I shot 49 grains of Varget behind a 95gr V-Max with a Federal 210m primer and winchester brass. The load put me a hair South of 3500fps.

I still prefer a larger cartridge/ bullet for big game, just my thing. If I were you, I would load the 140gr Nosler Accubond and never look back.

Good luck!

Savage F class, 30" 1-8" twist. 57 grains H1000 (over max, but fine in this rifle) 142 Sierra matchking, f210 primed 3150 fps. And opdinkslayer, no worries..there was alot on that other post (15 comments to be exact), not from me, but sorry I missed it! LOL! Gotta love internet warriors I guess?
