Knight Disc Extreme My dream rifle is complete!
« on: June 26, 2013, 07:25:35 PM »
Thanks to Sabotloader's help on accessories, I've completed my dream rifle.

It's got steel weaver bases.  (The aluminum bases and rings I bought from Knight are junk. But they did work, were very light, and were very inexpensive.)
It's got steel Leupold scope rings with thumb screws for quick removal.  It returned to zero just fine at the range today!
It's got a NECG peep site which also removes without tools.
It's got a cheap Bushnell 9 power scope which works good. Did I mention that it comes off quick with no tools?  :chuckle:
It's got a caldwell bipod for the range. (also removes with no tools. :chuckle:)
It's got a T/C power rod which stays in better than the Knight ramrod did. (not pictured) :chuckle:
It's got a Mountaineer green thumbhole stock. (It's lighter than the original stock, and I'm the only guy on my block to have one in green.)

So drool if you must.

Nice! I have been building the same setup on a Western conversion Mountaineer. Now I have three things left to do:
1) get it to fire the musket caps
2) photograph it
3) sight it in

Great looking gun!! I am curious what bullets & charges are working best for you. Last yr I hunted ID & needed a lead bullet. The no excuses bullet was easiest to load & grouped well. This yr hunting WA so going to try bloodline bullet but haven't been to the range yet. Totally happy w/ my Knight!

I've been trying the 290 grain Barnes Spitfire TMZ with 120 grains of Triple Seven FFFG. There's never any FFG at the store.  These have been shooting pretty good, until the barrel gets good and warm.  Then not so great. (See my thread "keyhole crazy")

Nice rifle Kerrdog! Yours and Sabotloader's set up inspired me, and my Mountaineer sports the same- Weaver rails, NECG peep for Washington and a Leupold 1.75-6X for PA deer.

Sad to say, I can't work up the load yet, mine wont fire a cap. Maybe to conversion to Western on a Mountaineer causes some issues.  It may be going to Iowa for warranty work before it works. But at least it looks nice:

This sounds like a job for Sabotloader.  I'm sure you'll get it popping caps.  Hopefully something simple.

And yes,  it looks real nice.

Kerrdog....sweet setup
How do you like the NECG as far as adjustability? Would you mind supplying the part # for the bases and rings?
