IMHO, the best lessons in hunting start with an emphasis first on safe gun handling, and next on reading and understanding the regulations. His muzzle is pointed in a safe direction and the action is open with his finger off the trigger - well done. This appears to have been a happy experience for the young lad and most likely, the pictures were taken during a legal hunting season.

If not, it might be prudent and helpful for dad to sit down with his son and let him know that they may have screwed up and "here's how you keep from doing that again and avoid trouble with the law". A good all 'round hunting education includes discussions and practice of safety, ethics, and adhering to regulations.
I like the picture and the joy on this kid's face. I'd hate to see that turn into disappointment or worse if this were to happen out of season and a game enforcement officer were involved. IRem, good for you for bringing your son up in hunting. We need all the new blood we can get.
