Knight Bighorn trigger assembly ???
« on: July 10, 2013, 03:27:41 PM »
Hi all, my trigger on my Knight Bighorn was seized up due to some residue from shooting it. I was able to clean it with carburator cleaner, penetrating oil and compressed air. It works fine now. However in the process of cleaning it I removed the safety "plate" including the "E" clips. Upon reassembly I cannot get the safety to work properly. It is very stiff and requires excessive pressure to switch between safe and fire. In addition I seem to mangle the "E"clips very easily. It has actually flung a few off. Both are having trouble the the lower of the 2 is particularly bad. I cannot switch the safety on/off more than a couple of times before I damage to clips. Has anyone dealt with this? Is there something I am overlooking? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Think I can help you...

Put the clips back on to hold the safety lever in place.

Turn the screw at the back of the trigger a couple of turns counter clock wise and see if the safety will now go on...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Hey Sabotloader, thanks for the info! Unfortunately I seem to be encountering the same problems. I adjusted the screw on the back to several different settings and it seems to be the same trouble. When I slide the lever back and forth it seems to pull the clips inward so far that they are pulled free of the pin. It also seems that the clips are blocking the pins from sliding in the slots on the lever. I broke a clip and need to get to the auto parts store for a replacement. I'll try again tonight when I get back. Thanks again.

Guess I would need to see it - to really tell what is happening - but it does sound odd...

Is it possible the clips have been spread to wide to grab the post correctly?

I have one in my hand here flipping it back and forth but can not get it to even move the clips. UNLESS the safety lever can not move across the sear.

This is a pic that I used to show another member...

If you look in the bottom picture with the safety lever off... you can see I have the safety plunger laying on top of the trigger.  With the trigger off the rifle like this you should be able to push the part in and out of the detent.
