my hunting/packlist
« on: July 12, 2013, 01:58:19 PM »
looking around ive found lots of helpful information about what everyones using what they've forgot and what you should take so im opening my hunting/pack list up for review. i hope this helps others the way alot of members on here have helped me. the theory behind this list is it will be getting shrunk down small enough to easily be read and laminated so it can be permanatly attached to my pack. this list is for all my hunting seasons and mainly to help me remember to bring everything by being able to check items off. weights are close but its an old scale and im not a 100% confident in it. everything on here will not be in the pack all at once and amounts of each item depends on the length of the hunt. well tell me what you think and im sure i speak for alot of us when i say i hope i dont see you in the mountains... :chuckle: but if i do hopefully we are in the right spot.

Lighters weigh so little that I usually have one in my pant pocket, one in my diddy and one in the little emerg pack. Fire is a good place for redundancy.

First aid supplies? Including benedryal, imodium, ibuprofen and possilbly an epipen?

Signalling supplies? Mirror, whistle, etc...

Add baby wipes.

Ditch the pillow

Ditch the hand warmers.

Add to kitchen stuff some aluminum foil around your pots. Great to help with firestarting if needed, reduces fuel load when in use. Can cook a smurf in it if you need to.

Add a few chicken broth cubes, a pinch or two of lemon pepper seasoning, etc...

I pair sock each day? How about a couple of microthin liner socks which you can rinse/dry and use with your main wool sock. Seemed heavy so many socks.

Add sunglasses.

i have built in sunglasses (transistion lenses) dont ever forget them because i dont make it to far without.

I have really senstitive feet. i will sacrafice a pound of weight for clean quality socks.

i carry a small container with a special mixture of johnnies, lemon and pepper, montreal, and garlic salt. tastes great on anything.

i like the idea of broth cubes would make for an easy warm soup and the end of a cold day

how does aluminum foil help so much? here of people saying always take it not a 100% why?????

hand warmers will only go when im positive its going to get cold.

pillow wont go if it going to be a long trip where weight is a issue but i really like being comfortable so im trying it out this year and might end up removing it. its really small and lgiht weight it came with my adam and eve cabelas sleeping bags

not big on the whole baby wipe thing not sure whey might try it out some time and see if it changes my mind. mabye its from changes poopy diapers for the past 3 years on 2 kids

signaling will use my headlamp its an extreme beam has 3 modes rediculously bright or i will build an monster smoky fire.

input much appreciated

I haven't used a thermacell yet, and from what I've read don't have as much faith in it like I do the sprays with deet, so you could save a couple oz losing that and replacing with a deet liquid spray.   Another trick I do before archery elk, is treat my shirt and pants in permethrin, seems to keep the bugs off, and then I don't have to use a spray or very little.

After cleaning diapers you should be able to see why baby wipes are a good thing. I went 11 days with no shower once will in the army and if not for my nightly baby wipe scrub down Who knows how nasty i could have gotten. They are great for your butt and feet. Costco has the best IMHO but they make a small field back that is actually called Butt wipes or on dollarshaveclub.com you can get the "One wipe Charlie's" once you go baby wipes you will  never go without!

motg, nothing captures the eye of someone in the air better than a mirror flash....

As far as the aluminum foil, if you are in a humid or moist environment, the foil can be used to reflect your first fire attempts back onto you tinder. First try may only warm you tinder, second will dry it a bit, etc.... Foil is your friend when making fires. Bounces the heat back, keeps the wind out.
