Pfluger President, will I be happy?
« on: July 15, 2013, 05:56:35 PM »
My anniversary present came in today after some shipping issues.  It's a Pfluger President spinning reel.  I've had the same 2 Quantam Snapshots on my rods for the past 15 years.  I will say the Pfluger is smooth.  Just wondering if I'll be happy with it or if there are things to watch out for?

Thanks

For the most part all FRONT DRAG spinning reels will be good. Now rear drag is a different story.

I've had a President on one of my drift fishing rods for a few years now...no complaints, I really like it.

My girl loves hers, Shes uses it for salmon and never had a problem. Flows like butter.

I have the Pfluger Purist, Best reel I've ever owned to this day. +1 Model up from the president.

I love mine!  I just bought another one a couple of weeks ago for my steelhead rod.  I plan to get a couple more for my trout rods as well.  10 ball bearings, very smooth and very reasonably priced.  I actually like them better than my Shimano's.

I've got two in different sizes. Haven't found any reason to get rid of them. Both roll smooth!

I have four of them and only had one issue on one reel which was the drag was starting to fail.  But it was my fault for not backing them off once I was done fishing.

I like the reel...

Backing them off, what do u mean? When you store them you release your drag?

Those are the best spinning reels for a steelhead rod hands down, I hammer the f out of mine and they still work like the day I bought em.

I own three.  One for my salmon/steelhead drift rod, one on my trout rod, and one on my bass spinning rod.  You can't find a better reel at that price, period.  The older models have a rosewood handle if you can find them.

Best bang for your buck for sure.  I've never had an issue with a President.  Every one of my Quantum reels has had work done to them.  They are all higher end Quantums too.  Now days, I've reverted back to the Shimano Stradics.  Never had issues with them either.
