Elk scouting quandary

 I'm not positive if it differs for elk in eastern wa to the ghosts on the wet side of the state if so please explain. But I have bin doing a lot of scouting and have bin finding that the bulls and cows are totally seprate as for right now. So my question is, will the bull go to the cows in September for the rut or will the cows follow the bulls lead. I just don't want to wast time finding bulls if when the rut comes around there going to split town. So do they summer where they rut?

The bulls will split up come September. They will find the cows, doesn't mean they won't be where you are seeing them now though, elk move around a lot. I saw 10 spikes yesterday but only one branched bull and he was tiny. I feel like scouting this time of the year is just about seeing what's around, come late August ill knw where exactly ill want to hunt opening week.

I would concentrate on the cows if I was seeing two separate areas one with cows and one with bulls.  But come late august when they start getting together, they could be both places. Get to Know all the areas that hold any elk or look like it should intimately! Then in late august check the spots and if they are there you'll already know the lay of the land and be ready for opening.
