I was so proud of my son passing Hunter's Education and doing quite well on it.  I have a 243 that we have been practicing with and he is getting pretty good.
All of the areas I hunt are in Central Washington, and are 3 pt or better.  I want to give him the best chance possible this year so I'm looking at the Northeast in one of those "Any deer" areas for youth.  I will have to head up there to scout, can anyone PM me some pointers of good areas to start scouting up there?  There are several units that are "any deer" for youth up there and I may only get one or two weekends to go up there for scouting.  Anyone able to recommend any places for youth hunt?

Thanks!  He is 9 years old and this was actually a huge confidence booster for him, He knew how important it was for me to want him to pass, and I saw how hard he worked and focused.  It was also nice to have good intelligent conversations with him about hunting.

Can't offer any scouting info on the any deer units (not because I am refusing to, but because I don't have any knowledge of those units), but congrats and good luck!

Gonna take my lady out with me this season for the first time and see if we can each tag and bag one

Congrats! That is a big step for a young man. Good for both of you. I'm going to put my son through one of my classes next year.
I hunt in the Sherman unit (101) it's any buck for rifle the 1st 5 days of the season and then any deer after that. Give me a call sometime and I'll give you some info that should put him on some deer. I was just up there last Tues/Wed and it was so hot that we only saw 2 deer in 2 days. I'd go up in Sept after it cools down a bit unless you just want to get familiar with the area then head up any time.

Blue creek is a youth whitetail anterless and is a great confidence boost hunt for kids. Not too steep, nice and wide open. Just make sure they aren't muley does! I used to love it up there but most of the land is no longer to Feel free to hunt, but with a youngster its just fine. PM me if you want some specific locations.
