Simple Broadhead Information

After being away from bowhunting a number of years I'm trying to get back into the past time I enjoyed so much. Have been attending 3D shoots, rejoined the local archery club, etc. I've been practicing alot and now have my bow tuned well enough now to start shooting broadheads.

With the hope of not starting a huge camp fire debate here's the heads I'm considering based on my own research so far: Wac 'Em Triton's XL in 125 gr, G5 Striker in 125 gr or just using the Thunderhead 125's I have on hand. I'm at 30'' draw shooting 62 lbs in a single cam bow. My quarry is elk only. I'm leaning towards the cut on impact heads which is why I'm not just screwing on the Thunderheads and going to the broadhead pit. Although they have shot well before but it appears there's better heads out there these days.

I just picked up some strikers, haven't shot them yet, but they are scary sharp.

All good choices.  Don't think you can go wrong either way. 

The Thunderhead 125 has more surface area so it is not as forgiving in wind and with marginal fletching.  But with the bow tuned well I doubt that will be a problem either.  My personal preference would be the G5 Stryker.  Though I would gladly shoot an elk with any of the heads you mentioned as long as the blades are fresh.

If your interested one of these weekends we should get a little outdoor 3d shoot going at Chinooks, Jereds back for awhile so I think it would be a good time, its always a blast with 3-5 guys. I assume that's were you got a membership to?

I switched from Thunder heads to the G5's  about 4 years ago and I do notice a difference in flight.  It makes more of a difference in longer shots obviously, if keeping your shots 30 yards and under then probably not much difference. If longer you will get enough improvement to switch for sure.

Yes on being a Chinook member. Planning on the Bowhunter Warmup shoot too. My son keeps in touch with Jered too. Maybe we can do something in the evenings?

Muzzy Phantom 150 grains on my arrows.  Good cut on contact but a lot of surface area, so important to broadhead tune and have good form.

Of those choices, I have used the G5 Striker to take down an elk. It did the job nice. But I currently use the Strickland Helix and love love love them.
