Needing some now land to hunt
« on: July 31, 2013, 12:03:04 PM »
Does anyone on the site have any land in GMU 124?  I am looking for some new places to fill this years tag.  I have a any buck tag for Nov 20 to 24th.

There's lots of DNR land and IEP land on this GMU. Have you tried any of those?

No not yet just kind of checking things out right now.  I have lots of land in 117 to hunt but have a good tag in 124 so I just need to find some land in the area to pull out a buck.  i'm really a meat hunter so size really does not matter to me, I've killed some big whities in the past but they were not great eating.

Did you draw an extra tag or permit?

There's a ton of open and huntable land in 124. All of it holds plenty of deer also. Look into public land or iep land.

Tag adds 5 days to general season. How many points did that cost?  Pray for cold weather. IEP gates were closed last year on the 15th of November.
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Haha!  That is so funny.  Sounds like a bad translation.  :chuckle:

I drew the permit with one point.  I generally draw some sort of deer tag.

I'm not trying to totally sound dense here, but the only difference you get from a regular otc tag is that you get 5 extra days, but you have to hunt in 124 on those extra days. I have never played the permit game so I really don't know.

Those 5 days are very good days. Unless you get something lined up you will be in paper ground. Which would be good to. We find some good sheds up there.

I love to hunt in late November and the tag seemed really good to me so I put in.  We will see how things turn out!

As far as I'm concerned those are the best 5 days to be in the Whitetail woods in the pnw. Was a sad year when archers lost those days.

I would agree, they are great days!  As a kid I remember tagging along with my dad, gradpa and great grandpa for the thanksgiving deer hunt.  One year we killed three bucks in 3 hours then went bird hunting and took home three limits!  Love that time of year!
