How many Pinks?
« on: July 26, 2013, 01:33:41 PM »

I smoke 8 to 10 every pink season and I keep a few to give away and after that they go back in the water.

In a single humpy season? 20-30+
I smoke 95% of it.
I've had day's where we've caught 10-12 in 3 hours.
If I bank a fish, Its getting eat'n  :dunno:
I see no point in throwing back a fish when Its on its last stretch of life.

Whatever we catch as bycatch while fishing for kings and silvers out in the sound.

As many as it takes to restock my egg supply. We keep a lot of fish. A lot gets smoked and whats left is usually given away to coworkers and friends who dont fish.

Smoked, or Canned.. Can't go wrong...

Here is a little trick for ya..

Bleed Gut Ice right away..

When you go to filet.  In a spray bottle mix 1 part water to 4 parts apple cider vinegar. Spray on skin (both sides) when it turns white spray off with hose jet.. (Caution scales will fly)

This will rid the slime from the rockets. Makes the brine process and rising much more pleasant.

Hmm... I may try this. How long until it turns white?

I eat ALL mine out of the rivers. and all I do is bleed and throw on stringer untill Im done fishing. Never had a problem with the meat turning.
Very rare that I get a bad fish unless its really late in the run.  :dunno:

Ignorance is bliss!  :chuckle:

Go catch them off the beach in the salt with buzz bombs, bleed and put on ice right away and you'll be rewarded with WAY better fish.
