Elk burger
« on: July 28, 2013, 10:49:49 PM »
A friend gave me some elk meat and I grilled the burger tonight.  First time I ever had it.  Pretty good.  I didn't tell my 8 year old grandson what it was and he ate 2 of them.  The best part was that he to my wife that my "hamburgers" were better than hers! :)

I guess mine were boring, but still good.  My Grandson may have busted me today. I had an elk roast out to thaw and he seen it and read the package. He asked what it was and I just told him it was a roast for dinner tomorrow.  Maybe he will forget what he read.

I've had my elk burger made with only 5 to 10% pork fat, but next time I'm going with no fat at all. They are a bit harder to get to stay together but the taste is better in my opinon. How long do you smoke those burgers for and what temp, sound incredible trying it this weekend!!

I usually do spaghetti and hamburger helper type stuff so no fat here.  If I want to grill some burgers I will mix in some cheap bacon and run it through my grinder and they hold together and taste great.

That's how I was raised on my dad's side of the family. Main meat was venison or elk, we only had beef if we had a big party and we needed a lot of hamburgers and hotdogs to fill up everyone. Smossy was the complete opposite and only just this year has he been able to really try ANY game meat.
