Skokomish cameras

Went to the Skok today to see if the fish were coming in . I got my key at Hunters and took a walk down to the cedar hole. before we got down to the hole we noticed a boat tied on the other side of the river and two guys and a chick working in the trees.When we passed by them they were hooking up some kind of solar panal on the dirt road on the other side.When we walked back passed them again they had set up two fake stump cameras and were covering them with brush.

Talked to a couple people today, including the Skokomish Police Chief and the Game Dept is setting up multiple cameras to catch poachers and anything illegal.

Sure hope so. As one of the very few legal fishermen on the river it would be nice to see fines being issued this year. Wdfw really lacks handing out tickets on the skok

Sounds like someone is talking sheet without BH45 being around  If you want to be a warden then I would say get with it and join the few the proud and the ......Well I will not go that far ....I will fish any dang way I feel like it ..as long as I not breaking laws ..But some laws are so freakin stupid that I have to turn my head once in awhile ...You sound like these wardens who try to prove BH45 to be the bandit on the block but as you know they have not and will not ever prove sheeeeet ! I catch thousands of fish a year and as long as they are bitting I am ripping lips ....On the bottom -in the middle or on top I like it all ways  That was not to bad now was it

I go down there now an again to watch the show.  Last year I took a short video.  Turn up the sound... most of the action is at the end. 

Before you watch, you should know that the natives are on the other side of the river and fisherman on either side kept catching each other... especially when someone had a fish on.  It was always a no contest because the natives were using such big line.

i used to fish that river a lot when i could go down there and CNR a couple dozen fish on bait in a morning, then they came out with the bonehead "keep the first 2 fish you catch and done" rule.  supposedly it's to get people off the river, problem is that it doesn't address the snagging problem(only enforcement presence would do that) and most of those guys take all day to get their limit anyway.

i sure miss how things used to be down there in the '90s when i started fishing it as well.

I wouldn't believe that. I was recently told by a WDFW employee that they have cams on certain gates in the Capitol Peak and Satsop units to catch quads going around gates so I can easily believe they would put cams on the Skoke.

No the wdfw does not have cameras up.

 I did get a follow up email saying that the tribe does in fact have cameras in place to monitor trespassing. And that is the only reason. They are not for wdfw enforcement reasons.
The tribe will be actually enforcing their no trespassing law, which was put in place quite a few years ago and never really enforced.

And yes. Green diamond does 100% have cameras watching gates. Many people are now finding that out via mail. With life time banning from the properties.

HILLBILLY ..You have some big ------ video taping people ....this is worse than the Samish  I have seen at least 3 fist fights fishing ...One time it was a black guy and a white guy ...the yelled at each other for about 5 minutes and then the white guy jumped in the river and reached up and grabbed the black dude by the shirt and jerked him off the bank  I seriously about peeeesed my pants laughing ...This is part of the tradition I just have to see every year

On the skok I have seen pistols "flashed", fights, people falling in the river, people getting busted, had my fish taken, even had a big biker dude try to fight me when I was only 15.  Used to have a good time fishing from first light to about 1.5 hrs past daybreak. Now I stop by with a couple beers after work and enjoy the show a couple times a year.

You guys mussed a great show yesterday. I hooked into a piece of line attached to a famous "skok fly" (weighted treble hook)....ripped it out of the fish and it shot back like a bullet. I caught it in the elbow and got a nice emergency room trip.

Who says float fishing isn't dangerous

what's the cutoff for knowledge eh?  30 years, 40 years?  you're like the old fart on the wynoochee that tells me i've never had a good day down there just because i wasn't fishing in the 1960s.

I think the "back in the 90s" comparison can be relevant; I find it humorous because it usually comes from some young guy talking like an authority. It does not take into account the vast experience of many fisherman in the decades prior, who are still around and actively fishing. Most more experienced guys see little difference between "back in the 90s" and now. Hell, my kids remember what fishing was like back in the 90s, and they're still teenagers. But yeah, its mostly old-guy grumbling... "back in the 1890s- now that was some good fishin'..."

Just remind the old guys that in the 1890's the fish were nearly wiped out by the canning industry and in the 1920's when refer cars allowed the railroads to ship salmon back east.
