On my way home I saw two guys crossing the street with 4 fish at Mama Sortinies.
Where is that even at? I hear people talkin about it but dont have the foggiest clue where it is.

It is on East Main in Puyallup. Combat fishing in its most raw form  :chuckle: :chuckle:

My son and I went down today and we picked up 4 between the two of us.

It is fun to fish with my son.

He just grabbed a rod from the shelf and we left for the river.   He fished with 20 lb main line and 20 lb test leader.

He still scratch out two.  And he cranked those little buggers.

I hooked into a king that I could not keep and he spooled me and I had to break him off.  That is the issue with running light gear.  :dunno:
20lb is light gear? Lol Im fishing 12. Its I can land kings on 15 no problem.

I don't think TheHunt mentioned what #line he was using. Said his son had 20/20.
Much of landing big fish on light line depends on having room to fight them. Light line and big fish without room to follow them or lots of wood or boulders in the river usually means a lot  more lost fish.

Can't be worse combat fishing than some of the other spots on the Puyallup these days... can it...?

East main turns into Trafffic Avenue in Sumner; Stortini's is right across the river from Sumner. Anyone remember when it was "Anton's" and one of the better steelhead drifts on the river?

I have caught a many fish from that drift from both sides of the river. If a person can't catch a humpy from there they need to say home.  :chuckle:

I usually use 10 lb main line and 8 lb leader.

My son picked up the heavy duty rod.  20 / 20...    It was dark in the garage and he randomly grabbed a rod.

I will be honest it was funny as heck watching him fight his fish.  (AKA Winch them in).

Oh some one cast over him while he had a fish on.  He winched it to shore laughing the whole time.  THe dude's face was priceless.  Then he asked what line he was using he said 20 lb...  Pinks are mighty fighters.   It was pretty funny.

Tried the Puy this morning. Spot I went to was slow at best. This is a place that has been very productive until this year. Guys downstream and across were doing OK. I think my tendency is to think the spot you choose does not matter as much when it comes to a million pinks, but clearly it does. Weird how hotspots can change from year to year with little apparent change in the river.

Anyone selling the set up you need for catching pinks? We used yarn and 2 pink corkeys about 2' up the line a piece a pencil lead and a swivel. Anyone have these pre tied for purchase?
PM sent

I've seen some on Craigslist, it was 25 bucks for 10 leaders wrapped on a piece of foam. Shoot, you can make 50 leaders for 25 bucks yourself. Seeme like alot of scratch for 10 leaders.
