.280 vs 7x57 Mauser

I currently have a .280, but just recently my brother bought a 7x57 Mauser, We're just curious what the difference is? I've heard there almost the same size.

Both are great cartridges, I have owned .280's. I still have and shoot the 7x57, super accurate, mild recoil and a animal isn't going to be able to tell the difference from a hit by either chambering. My 7x57 likes H4350 powder across the board. Currently my load is 46gr of H4350 and a 160 Nosler Accubond.

They both use the same .284 bullet, the 280 has a little more capacity and is loaded hotter than the 7x57mm about 300fps faster.  In a strong action you can load the 7x57 hotter but factory loads are held down by the fact that there are so many pre 1900 rifles still around for the cartridge.

One thing to remember the 7x57mm earned it's bones around the world as a hunting cartridge with the 175gr RN and you could use it for anything in the lower 48 with that bullet.  I shoot a 7x57mm Rimmed and like 139's 154's and 175's in it.

I have both calibers, like them both, but my favorite in the 7X57 due its milder recoil.
