Need help in Identification

This afternoon I had a bird smack into our front room window and I mean really smack into it! It didn't kill the bird, but it sure made him lay on our front sidewalk for about 10 minutes.
I grabbed my camera and went out to take some photos because I couldn't find a picture of it in our bird books. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?


















Luckily the poor bird survived the ordeal and finally flew away. I bet it wondered what that big goofy looking thing was that had a massive beard and a big black thing with a huge eye on the front that kept getting so close and making clicking sounds.

It kind of looks like a Flicker, but I don't think they have that many spots.

I was going to say one of the thrush family but it does look like those flickers too !!

Wow! You guys are Fast! I have lived here in Washington all my life and this is The First one of these birds I have ever seen! 
He was a pretty good sized bird too! He was laying broadside on the sidewalk and he took up 1/2 of it! 
I was sure glad to see him get up on his feet and finally fly away! I was even more than happy to be able to get within inches of him to photograph him.

I guess it pays to always have a camera ready to grab some photos at a moments notice!

Thats funny, I thought I was doing it all wrong.  All I can seem to call in is flickers and hawks.

I bet you have seen them before.
When you drive logging roads, etc. they will always flush and fly down the road in an up and down (flicking  ) motion.
