Great photos in this thread!
Here's a northern pygmy owl, Coast Range, Oregon, September 2025. Just 5.5" tall, but the local songbirds were scolding it like it was a great horned owl!

And one more- great gray owl, north Idaho, November 2024 (during my deer hunt).
This great gray let me walk by at 6 yards. I love the cryptic coloration- the great camouflage against tree bark.

Back in the day we would not be taking pictures of these owls, we would be shooting them. My dad never passed up the chance for some target practice with his .22 revolver whenever we spotted an owl or hawk.
