tapping bullet with starter
« on: August 10, 2013, 06:08:39 PM »
My daughters are using sst bullets with a t handle starter and was just wondering if there is anything wrong with tapping on starter or is it better to just apply pressure .Sometimes inbetween swabbing the barrel it gets a little tough.
Thanks

I'm not sure if tapping would be a good idea :dunno: I've always just always pushed them in with my bullet starter. One thing I do is lube up the outside of every sabot with bore butter and keep them in a speed loader to keep them clean while afield.

worse thing you can do is lube a sabot, they are meant to go down with some force behind them.

I don't tap, just a good steady push with my range rod. Never needed a short starter unless I was shooting conicals that needed a good whack to get them past the band or for patched round balls.

Say "NO" to bore butter with sabots.  You want that rifling to cut into that sabot.  Get a range rod.  Easy loading is way over-rated.
