Wet Side Elk
« on: August 14, 2013, 09:39:08 AM »
When is prime rut?  I thought I had this figured out but I just realized that the prime rut for black tail is early November and hunting is essentially not allowed at all.  Is this the case for elk?  A closed off season during prime rut?

what do you mean by "prime" ?? lots of people think the pre rut is prime (archery season) cuz the bulls are sizing each other up..while others think the most intense vocal period is prime cuz the bulls are going nuts..your not gona get a conclusive answer since everyones prefrences are different..

prime rut for me this year is gona be sep 3-15th in Washington and in idaho its gona be about october 10-24th

9/11-9/25 seems to be the peak rut.  Bulls are more vulnerable earlier than that though :twocents:

From what I've seen prime elk rut is last week in Sept and first week in Oct.  They'll bugle well before and after.  But I see them with the cows penned most around Oct 1st.

I have trail cam pics of a decent 5 point bull hanging with the same cows from 7/20 to 8/10.  He is looking to start the rut early!  :tung:
