Obiedience and Force Fetching Video Series on YouTube... Opinons???

Hello,

Found this series of videos on youtube the other day and as a noob hunter was wondering if this is a good resource for training a dog. I believe that this gentleman is associated with Chris Akin and Webbed Foot Kennels as I have seen him in some of those videos.

Was just wondering what other more experienced minds and eyes thought on his techniques.

I read the book Water Dog by Richard Wolters, old book but I have had nothing but excellent hunting dogs using what I have learned from it.

BigTine96 - I read one of the other Wolters book, Gun Dog (Waterfowl and Upland). I really liked the book and a lot of what he had to teach. However I like the idea of collar conditioning a dog so its almost like they are always on a leash after reading Tom Dokken's book. Just got "10 min retriever" and Robert Milner's book in the mail today.

I was looking for videos that go over FF with some detail and found these. He does FF and FTP in the later episodes.

Im not trying to turn you away from the videos they might be great. Definitely give them a shot and look at the guys comments from people who have used his teachings.

Vid 8 is the first collar conditioning and vid 10 is the start of FF. Was wondering if from those that have done collar conditioning and FF if this is a reasonable approach. I'm continuing to read and learn. Am really looking for feed back on these videos pls.

You really need to understand the entire program / concept, for both Force Fetch and collar conditioning before you attempt either.  I don't believe a few minutes on you tube can provide that.  Although the goals may seem simple, they are not.  I suggest getting a complete book or video program and understanding them prior to attempting either.  Failure to do so could cause you issues down the road.

IMO the Tri-Tronics series with Dobbs is better.  We have used this for years. Most of the pros I know also use it. Looks like it is on You Tube you can also get a DVD at Dobbs training site.
