As  a rifle tag I'm same as muzzy. Look at your regs . The permit that you drew . If it has and H buy it then orange is required . If not know  orange  is required . The quality rifle is not general season . :twocents:
YoterHunter, which of the words is not clear to you?

"All modern firearm permit holders must wear fluorescent hunter orange clothing."

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I went back and read the regs again   :bash:  I'm sorry but I am still having problems with this.

•Anyone hunting in an area that is open for modern firearm deer or elk hunting must meet hunter orange requirements if they are hunting any of the following species: Bear, Bobcat, Cougar, Coyote, Deer, Elk, Fox, Grouse, Hare, Rabbit, or Raccoon.

I will be hunting for elk in an area that is open for modern firearm elk (10 rifle permits)

Hunter Orange Clothing is Not Required:
•While hunting in a muzzleloading or archery only GMU and possessing a valid muzzleloading or archery deer or elk tag.

I will not be in a muzzleloading only GMU (10 rifle permits)

I REALLY don't want to wear hunter orange. Please help me understand why some of you are positive that I don't have to use it.

I could call the game dept. but I would probably get a different answer each time

Why not wear orange?  For your safety regardless and it doesn't seem to effect the elk.

Maybe not at 100 yds, maybe not at 40 yds, but how about 25 yds? 15 yds? 5yds?

because forget about the regulations and you have to go to the wac book on this one! the wac originally said during a general deer or elk season, then a few years ago the regulations where changed to any modern centerfire season, I don't believe the law was changed just the wording in the regulations but im not sure of that! I will look up the wac right now

yes they changed the wac so modern permit holders have to wear orange, it says its unlawful to hunt bear cougar, coyote and all the without wearing orange! so kinda a catch 22, which would be the same if your coyote hunting in a elk area that has master hunter permits you are required to wear orange, so you have to know all the seasons even the ones your not hunting

Reply #15 of this thread, Bob33 posted a link to the RCW.

Quote
WAC 232-12-055
   Agency filings affecting this section
Hunting—Hunter orange clothing requirements.
(1) Except as authorized in subsection (5) of this section, it is unlawful to hunt upland birds or rabbits during any upland game bird season unless the hunter is wearing fluorescent hunter orange clothing.
(2) It is unlawful to hunt deer or elk during all modern firearm general seasons in any manner unless the hunter is wearing fluorescent hunter orange clothing.
(3) All modern firearm permit holders must wear fluorescent hunter orange clothing.
(4) It is unlawful to hunt bear, cougar, bobcat, raccoon, fox, coyote, rabbit, forest grouse or hare during those times and in those places open to the taking of deer or elk during a modern firearm season, unless the hunter is wearing fluorescent hunter orange clothing.
(5) Persons who are hunting upland game birds during an upland game bird season with a muzzleloading firearm, bow and arrow or falconry are not required to wear fluorescent hunter orange clothing.
(6) Wearing fluorescent hunter orange clothing means: A minimum of 400 square inches of fluorescent hunter orange exterior clothing, worn above the waist and visible from all sides.
(7) Violation of this section is an infraction, punishable under RCW 77.15.160.

You are not a modern firearm permit holder, and there is not a general season going on for deer or elk, so you are not required to wear orange. :twocents:
