Two Point or better on westside!
« on: October 23, 2008, 09:35:04 PM »
I think that the west side of the state should go to two point or better, 15 and under would be any buck.

I also think we should break up the regular season into like 4 seperate 1 week seasons which you could put a cap at a certain amount of permits (this would all be dependent on the gmu) they could manage different ones differently.

I havent really thought out all the specifics but I just believe it should change, too many people blasting every spike in the open to get really good hunting.

Thats just my idea, was kinda wondering what others thought?

I like the idea of 2pt or better.  I also like the idea of the youth being able to shoot spikes.  Hunting the westside is tuff for alot of people.   Its hard to keep the kids interested in hunting if they never shoot anything, and we need more of the younger people getting involved

I'm all for it. I've always hunted 2-pt or better over here. Never have killed a spike. Deer numbers have dropped drastically in the last 10 years where I hunt and killing all the lil spikes don't help anything.

I would guess that the any buck areas are set to decrease the buck to doe ratio.  Other than that I have no idea why they would set that regulation.

I like the 2 point or better idea, and maybe making 2 two week seasons.  I love the idea of kids being able to shoot any buck.  Also, units that are loaded with deer (washougal is the one that comes to mind) give out limited doe tags to the youth hunters as well.

Deer go in cycles just like rabbits and coyotes.  With the exploding cat population, and bears making a comeback, the deer population will drop, till we can thin out the predators.  It was not but a couple of years ago, it was not uncommon to see 40 or 50 deer a day in the Washougal unit, but you would also see 150 hunters as well.  The more remote the country the fewer the deer, since blacktails seem to thrive on clearcut land with timber/wooded areas close by and lower elevations than mulies. That being said, if logging slows down, due to the slow housing market, etc... less clearcuts, less deer etc....  You find a 3-8 yr. old clearcut and sit there long enough you are going to see a boat load of deer.  Maybe not trophy size, but you will see bucks and a pot full of does.  I have never gone a season without seeing 150-200 deer.   just my  :twocents:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Wise man (cattle rancher x2) told me and I believe the idea behind the genetics that spikes should be the first ones shot in the season.  While other deer are growing, a spike is a mutant and will "never" be a good breeding animal.  The deer population in the winter would have a better chance of survival if the bigger more mature and stronger bucks did all the breeding.  The ranchers both from conconully have alot of knowledge about animals including deer because they host a large amount of land and can see the differences in stock from year to year.  I do agree with better management of our game.  I also wouldn't mind seeing some of our money from licensing fees go to leasing more land from the larger land owners even if it means more raffles to access the land.
