So Satisfying
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:33:05 AM »
It is an amazing feeling to have a well tuned bow.

I received my first compound bow, Bear Encounter #60 last December and have been learning as much as I could ever since.

I haven't been coached in-person at all.  Just over the internet and LOTS of research.  RadSav helped me a whole bunch (he even GAVE me a really night sight  :yike:) and I pored over years of threads on Hunt Wa.

Well I thought I was well tuned until I put on broadheads in July and realized that I had a lot to fix.  So I got 'er tuned up pretty well using what I learned here and then had a splintered limb.  Then I got the new limbs but Bear sent #70 limbs instead of #60.  "Screw it" I said, "just put them on the bow" but then I needed to get new arrows because the 400 were too squirrely  :pee: with hunting tips.  So I got 340 arrows in late July.

I had my bow tuned for broadheads "pretty well" but didn't have much confidence past 50 yards until last week.  I finally got the courage to move my rest 1/16" and VOILA!  I am shooting soooooo much better.

Last night I took four downhill shots at 54, 57, 61, 64 and had a group of about 3" which I consider an accomplishment.

Thanks HuntWA!

Thanks!  I really appreciate it.

I noticed my shooting got WAYYYY better when I started shooting six nights a week.  Not even a lot, just at least 12 shots nightly and my groups cinched up quick.

What was the reason you decided to move your rest?  Why did it take awhile to make that decision?

What was the reason you decided to move your rest?  Why did it take awhile to make that decision?

I shot at 20 yards, was grouping dead center.  Moved back to 30, grouped at 2" left.  Moved back to 50 and groups were about 4" left.

I am a little overspined (which makes RTH shooters group left) so I was nervous to move the rest if it wasn't the problem.  But I moved it and I group dead center at all ranges.

I also adjusted my D-Loop and that tightened everything up even more.  I believe I was porpoising slightly.

Better to be over spined than under 340's should be perfect good luck out there
