what to do, peaches ridge
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:39:42 AM »
so i got drawn for peaches ridge any bull  modern firearm, had plans to do as much scouting as possible, but my job hasn't allowed me to do so. probably could scout for a couple days memorial day weekend and thats it.have hunted little naches area for about 10 days over 3 yrs mostly down low for cows. im 57 years old been hunting for 45 yrs,( shot a lot of ne wa. deer) but never shot an elk. question is, do i go alone and maybe get lucky on a nice bull or maybe hire a guide and pack in on horses, maybe shoot a trophy? i've got about 9 days i can hunt,i know this could be a good hunt, possibly hunt of a lifetime for me (if i drew this again, be to old to enjoy) what can i expect on my own.what to expect from a guide. 300 plus class bull? if i go alone what are  some good maps for the area. if i go with a guide who do i go with .im a pretty good hunter( not a road hunter). dont what to let this tag go to waste. what do you think i should do. thanks

I have hunted this area my whole life and I can tell you its a good tag and with leg work you can do good,I wouldn't waste my money on a guide for this tag cause there is plenty of land to hunt and you can do a ton of research to find the elk.If you want I could show you some land or if you really want to hire a guide then contact norspeak he is the best bet for that area.

there's plenty of bulls in there if your willing to work , the toughest part will be finding a post rut bull . theres some heavy timber , I'd go slow and cover country .

Dark blowdown timber,  Cow call alot! Cover lots of drainages and you will find elk..  Sure a guide is nice but honestly you don't need one..  Id do almost anything for that tag.....

Good luck
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...
