Elk in previous burns?
« on: August 24, 2013, 07:10:25 PM »
Wondering how long it takes Elk to move back into a burn.

I was tromping around a burn and was cutting a lot of fresh sign and what looked to be a dust bath in the ashes.   Area was all worked up.

Fast, I have seen elk go into burn areas and eat the burnt up wood. Also seen then eat in old campfire spots.. Maybe they like the ash.

Probably just a travel route, but they do frequent them..

I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Does not take them very long, Burns provide optimum nutrients to the soil, new growth is like candy to elk/deer.

I love to bow hunt in the newly burned areas.  The elk seem to always be in there early.  The ground is very quiet with the light burn dust/ash.
They seem to like to bed in the soft burn area for some reason.?

the burns are good areas if they have good cover near by , most of the elk will be miling around there at night then bug out for cover at day break.
