Peep sights
« on: August 29, 2013, 08:59:07 PM »
Where exactly are you suppose to mount the Williams peep sights on a Winchester X-150 and a Knight Wolverine???

I mounted mine on the X-150 a little rear of the stock rear sight but still in front of the breech... Scope mounts...

My Dad's Wolverine only fit in the very rear scope mounts behind the breech....

I was told I need to mount mine there and his is right and mine is wrong.... First time trying these with no experience.... His sight picture looks too big imho.... Mine looks a lot better imho.... My Dad doesn't even like the sight pic... He has shot his with decent accuracy out to 50 yards but that's it.. I haven't touched mine off yet...

Most often the peep sight is mounted to the rear as far as possible.

This is mine peep on the MK-85

And this is another style mounted on a White

It does take some getting use to... you have to trust that your eye will do a lot of the work for you. your job is to place the front sight on the point of aim and allow your eye to center it in the peep.

To help we with that I use a hooded front fire sight also... the hood helps me think I am kinda looking through a 1x scope.

You can getting tighter rear apertures for the peep but then in low light - light becomes a problem...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Mounting the peep sight as far back on the rifle as possible is the best way to do it.  The longer sight radius makes it easier for more accurate shots.  However, if you can mount your peep forward of the breech and you like the sight picture, I would use it.  I have a browning auto 22 with a skinner peep which mounts on the barrel and it shoots fine.
The big sight picture shouldn't matter, as your eye would center the front sight in the middle of your peep when you look thru it, regardless of how big the sight picture.
You can also buy other rear aperatures that fit the williams peep and change the size of the opening for a smaller/larger opening.  Go to Williams website, or Brownells, to see the other options.
I would suggest the Merit aperature.  It is adjustable, and you can set it as large or as small as you like.

The fiber-optic front sight is great for finding a critter standing in brush in low light.  I think now Williams sells sets of apertures in various sizes.  Small is good for sighting in at the range, but big is better for actual hunting.  :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Thank you guys.... Much appreciated on the info.... I will try shooting both on mine.... Dad is stuck there because that's the only place it will fit...

Sabot I have a ??

Our Williams peeps don't have anything on the sides for adjustment.... They adjust just like a stock sight with the peep... It screws on the barrel and that's it... You can adjust it just like a stock sight to front sight.... Nothing more... Did we go wrong??? Or is this a good sight as well just different????? I'm almost tempted to put the stock sights back on....

Can you get me a picture of your sight? even email it to me @  pete@turbonet.com if that is easier...

The Williams WRGS has two screws on top for adjustment - one for windage and one for height.

On the tang Williams peep sight I have, there is no windage adjustment per se-- you loosen a screw, move the windage to what you think you need, and clamp it back down with the screw.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I like the hood on the front sight to keep the fiber from being broken
