New hunter. Tri Cities.
« on: September 04, 2013, 12:54:18 PM »
Hello folks.

I rifle hunted a couple of times when I was younger but I really don't remember much from those experiences. So now I'm trying to get back into hunting.  I had a buddy willing to take me last weekend, but we didn't get very lucky up in concunrlly.  Which sucks cause I really wanted to.learn how to properly handle the deer and bone and process it after the kill from him.

But anyways what I'm asking is does anyone know of any public state land that is good for early archery season?  I'm not asking for the best spots, just someplace i can maybe get any white tail or mule deer buck.  Mostly I just need experience. And if i can get one around here i can just take it to a butcher and learn from my friend how to process next year.

Thank you.

Drive towards the Tucconnon river. Head into the NF land and find a spot where you can have the deer funnel in front of you. For early archery it is 3 pt minimum or antlerless. Have a good chance a whitetail or muley. Good luck!

When i looked up Tucconnon river google maps give me a point off the snake river just above dayton.  Is this in the general area you are talking about?  The other problem is i don't really know the areas outside of the tri cities at all.

Found it!  Thank you sir.  So i guess that means for any kind of deer hunting i am looking at a 2 hour drive from here??  That makes me wish i still lived in Omak and could just go for a quick drive into the woods.

NF land up that way. To hunt in the woods yeah. About two hours away from everything. Past Yakima, is about the same. Don't get discouraged. There are plenty of opportunities to harvest a deer 1/2- 1 1/2 hour away. Can get right outside Waitsburg and head into the hills to find some trees. Find an old river bottom or drainages outside 3 cities. Gotta do your research though to find the public land besides the NF. Good luck!
