Evening stand location for Elk
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:21:19 PM »
Ok I've been hunting for about five years now and have learned a lot along the way, but something I haven't learned was staring me down last night as I was settling in fory evening stand. How do you decide where to set up in the evening. I've heard evening can be a very successful time for hunting but I have only seen animals ( for the most part) in the morning and a few throughout the. Please share your experience with me west side elk hunters. I'm getting tired of so close I am celebrating on my head to only fall short once again( no shot, busted, etc) vent.

I feel your pain.  Ive been having a tough time during the evening hunts myself.  What worked alright for me this year was setting up downwind of bedding areas, and doing non agressive quiet bugling about 20 minutes before dark.  Only gives you a short window to seal the deal, but I had animals come out of bedding a few times this season.  Drew back on a cow but she busted me.
