Heading to the Blues
«
on:
September 06, 2013, 10:31:34 PM »
Putting the last of my gear togethor to head over and meet up with mtcook and 2Many (Dave and Brett) to go play with bulls next week. I think mtcook is buried getting everything organized for his archery hunts for the rest of the season so I wanted to mention this hunt as it was one of the donations mtcook made to the Colockumelk fundraiser. Brett was kind enough to purchase the credit Dave donated so this hunt will be special because of that and we will have Aaron in our thoughts as we work out butts off in that steep nasty country and try to bring a bull home that would make him smile down on us. I hope to bring a flag into camp to hang in a tree to pay tribute to a fallen hero. I know there is a camp working their tails off in the Cascades for a tribute bull and we will be doing the same in the Blues. Good luck to all and whether tags are notched or not lets remember the guys and gals who dont get to do what we do and pay the highest price. nwhunter

Well said, Scott. Good luck to all you guys. Be safe and do Aaron proud. Good luck to 2Many and may your generosity be returned in the form of giant bull elk antlers.

Thanks Scott for that opening. I was at the camp today finishing the setup. I'm glad to report not seeing anyone in the area. Had a couple of big storms come through, weather report warm through Wed. then cooling. Bring dry socks. Sas has got the meals planned for Larry's cooking.

He has been sending me updates, as of Tuesday night they had not filled the tag. It did sound like the hunting was getting better.

still in there, last day tomorrow. Been a hard hunt. Passed on small (330) bulls. They are beat up and tired. Could have closed the deal several times with a rifle. Other camps similar results with shots missed and a lost bull that was trailed hard for 2 days. One tagged today will pack him out on Friday, with pics.

We put every drop of effort , sweat and blood into this hunt and for ten days played with some awesome bulls in the toughest nastiest country this state has. Brett(2many) and his wife absolutey worked their butts off and if anyone deserved to come home with a bull he did, but mother nature can be cruel and we don't always get what we deserve. Without a doubt he could have killed a 340 bull we had dead to rights and several other smaller bulls but he held onto his goal of 360 or bust. We had multiple chances at those type of bulls but couldnt get the bulls to take that last step or clear the brush for an ethical shot. The hot weather didnt help but we wont make excuses and honestly we dont need to give any because we left it all on the mountain. We hunted the deep bottoms every day and laid out on those hot afternoons with ants and flies crawling all over us waiting for the evening bugles to come. We sweated gallons of sweat and pushed each other to the max and Colockumelk was in our thoughts the entire journey. I will post some pics of the hunt later. nwhunter
