deer park kitty down!!
« on: September 09, 2013, 07:41:37 PM »
I was bowhunting over a pond north of deer park, been getting nice pics of a few elk and deer before season. Once season started there were not many animals around anymore. Last friday I sat in my stand all evening and only seen two does that were very nervous and left without drinking water. After shooting light I climbed down and went to swap memory cards on the trail camera and I could smell something dead near by. The next morning my father and I went to look for what was dead in the area, 50 yards from my tree stand there was a dead doe all covered up. It only had a little meat gone off rear legs and in groin. I made a plan to skip bowhunting that evening and come back with a rifle and sit in a ground blind and watch the cougar kill til dark. We got in the blind about 4pm and were set up about 75 yards from cougar kill. 7pm I catch a ear walking through the brush and a second later the cat stepped out and started walking toward the pond and our blind, she got to about 50 yards away and I shot her in the chest with my christensen arms 300 weatherby mag. She dropped and never moved. It was the first cougar that I have ever seen in the wild, also very nice to share the experience with my father!!! The cat measured 6'6" nose to tail.
