Bull Down
« on: September 10, 2013, 12:34:48 AM »
I almost didn't go out tonight after a few slow days I was thinking the elk had moved out of the area I was in.  I had a few come in opening day, but couldn't get a decent shot, and I only seen one other elk the next morning.  I headed out to a wallow that has had some activity at about 6 after handling some business, and did some cow calling, at about 7:20 after no responses I tried a weak bugle just to see if I could get a response which I didn't.  I thought I had heard some branches breaking a couple minutes after I bugled so I positioned myself incase anything came out of that direction.  About 10 minutes later a 3x2 stepped out into the wallow followed by two other elk one was a spike the other bigger, but I didn't have enough time to wait him out.  The 3x2 came out of the brush, and took a hard right putting him broadside at 35 yards, I drew as he walked behind some small cottonwoods he presented his vitals a few seconds later.  I released, and my string caught a leaf causing a loud twang, but it didn't matter the arrow found its mark he took about ten steps then crashed into some brush.  The arrow pierced the heart perfectly, and the 125 grain muzzy held together very well.  I will post some pictures when I get them downloaded onto my computer.
