Looking for a new Elk experiance.
« on: October 10, 2013, 07:02:04 PM »
It seems as though several members of our camp are going to be moving on and hunting in different areas this year. Some to Montana some to Idaho and even some hunting other areas of WA. It looks as though our camp may not happen next year. I am starting to look at other options for next season. I rifle Elk hunted up Gold Creek when I was in high school and have Archery Hunted Elk in the blues since 2009. I have yet to kill an elk and now I am wondering if I will even elk hunt anymore. I have a Traditions Muzzle Loader that my cousin gave me last year and have yet to fire it. I am considering Muzzy or Archery Elk next year but it looks like I will be searching for new partners to start a camp with. It makes me sad to think about it. I guess I really dont know anywhere but the Blues and with Blue Creek having fewer and fewer elk and less and less ground that is accessible to hunt, I wonder if I should just hang it up and give up on killing an elk.

Maybe look to hunt some of the other areas of Wa with your current camp members? After fighting the crowds in the 342 this last week my partners are considering different areas. Tough to change when you keep getting drawn for tags there though. Good luck to you, I hope your camp and hunts live on!

I dream of days where I get to hunt elk by myself.  Success rate goes WAY up when I am by myself!  Only problem in early archery season is the temperature and delay in getting elk out alone.  Don't mind the hard work as long as I don't end up with sour meat.  I'd spend every single season by myself if given the chance.  But then again, I like peace, quiet and success!

I've gone on many elk hunts by myself, and oftentimes my camp is the bed of my pickup truck.  I hate to think there's a day when I would not go elk hunting because no one else could or would go with me (I am a self admitted pain in the arse).

Explore.  Branch out.  Enjoy it for what it is.  Thank God that you have two functional legs and a brain to guide them.  See new places.

Hunting by yourself can be a wonderful time for personal growth and introspection.  My philosophy is plan the hunts I want to do, then invite people along who I would like to share it with.  If it ends up just me, my bow and God, there is nothing wrong with that.
