I backed out
« on: September 13, 2013, 07:55:43 PM »
Was set to leave tomorrow for the high hunt and due to the rain forcast I backed out.  Looks really wet!!  I dont think this would be fun without a wall tent?     Ill try for next week.   :cryriver:

Good luck to those packing in!  Especially the guys on foot.

I'm on the same plan but I'm using the excuse that "I'm waiting for the hunters thin out".

I'm headed to Cabelas this weekend to get a better set of rain bibs for my high mountain trip. It looks like I will be headed up in the middle of the rain. Guess I'm a glutten for punishment.

I'm just doing day hunts into colonel Bob wilderness. Bring on the rain!!!!!!  I'm not even gonna wear rain gear so I get the most punishment possible.

The big ones come out when it is rainy/foggy/overcast.  Then they don't have to hide in cool, shaded spots near water.

Too bad you couldn't find some way to go anyway.  I slept in the back of my old Subaru, or tried to I should say, during that big rain and lightning storm a week ago Thursday.  That is the closest I have been to a lightning strike.  It was a little before dusk and a bolt hit close enough that all I could see was white.  I was sitting next to my partner on the bumper of his Tahoe using the open hatch as a roof.  That bolt hit and he just disappeared in white light.  There was no pause between that and the loudest thunder clap I have ever heard.  You could actually feel the concussion from it.

This post made my day  8)

I was a bit bummed about not being able to make the opener... might have a little more solitude than I expected/hoped for!  Just hope things don't get to socked in - I did plan for closer quarters hunting if that is the case, but not as fun as my "plan A" of getting up on the ridges and glassing a lot.

About any rain or low clouds and the hikers (about 95% of your company? in some areas), will tend to go elsewhere.  Blue skies and mountain vistas bring them out in droves to take pictures.
