Again if an archer carries his side arm is he poaching just because he has a gun , the problem is our game laws are so confuted that you need to be a Philadelphia tax lawyer or Bobcat not to be doing some thing wrong . If you don't want to carry your bow or rifle while scouting then don't . just don't assume a guy is a poacher just because he doe's . Aren't we in America where we are inisent  till proven guilty ? ask rt about that bs, plus he did shoot a bear last year while scouting for elk with labs07 so it doe's happen .
The worst thing they ever did was allow a bowhunter to pack a side arm ...If I need to kill something that is attacking me I will use my bow ...that's why I bowhunt ...I do not need a side arm ...and if I was going to use it to poach I would be relying on my bow more than a pistol ...I wonder how many bowhunters do use their pistols to shoot at game  :twocents:
bow hunters that carry side arms are afraid of things that go bump in the night ! with the exception of griz country . I would venture to say that most bow hunters are better with a bow than a pistol so why would they try to shoot with a side arm ?

I have to disagree with you two.

"bump in the night" comment was a bit condescending.

If archers aren't allowed to exercise their 2a rights just because they are bowhunting;  I wonder what other activities one could come up with as well?

An arrow in a charging bear isnt going to mean much....a 44mag to the head neck or chest is going to do way more

not to mention it takes a little longer to nock and fire an arrow than it does to draw and fire a gun.  and if your arrow misses youre screwed, you can keep pulling the guns trigger.  and who says you get enough warning to use your bow when being attacked?  things happen FAST sometimes.  the guy who says hell use his bow if an animal is attacking him is high.

KF don't get wound up about the bump in the night dude , i'm cool with us having the right to carry , my point is you don't need one . I;ve spend countless hours in the woods both in the dark and light of day. the reality is a guy dosn't need a pistol inless he's in griz country / maybe we have so many wolve that wdfw demed it nessisary to pack.

Tell that to my buddy that got attacked by a cougar that snuck up on him. It shouldn't even be a debate  if you are able to carry a sidearm or not. If you choose to be robin hood when something happens to come after you, then good luck but i'm taking my pistol anyday over your bows and arrows  :chuckle:

man your buddy must have had elk piss all over him . the chance of getting attacked by a cougar is less than being hit by lighting ! sorry for your pal though . Bobcat can you run the numbers on the chance of a archery hunter being attacked in the woods by a critter ? :chuckle:

I call BS, your telling me a bow is better than a handgun? I beg to differ. Many dead people who have been attacked wish they had a firearm. I dont see tgat you have time with a bow if being charged or attacked. A pistol should be carried. I know coach didnt but I sure as hell do anytime I am in the woods!

But I would of let the bear get a bite of coach before I put one in him :chuckle:

I think it comes down to ones personal thoughts and how confident he is in the woods. Sure the chance of attack is minimal, but no bow can replace the thump of a pistol...

I love bumps in the night, come on in!!!
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

Here's a picture of how we're dressed in elk camp in case cougars attack. Take no chances!!!!  :yike:

Ha! I'm not sure how much elk piss he had on him but yeah he was sitting quietly in a place with a lot of ferns just hunkered down listening. At the last second he heard something over his right shoulder and turned to look just as the cat jumped on him. The cat ended up glancing off of him and basically took most of his ear and left some nice scars on his face. When the cat landed in front of him he was face to face with it. The cat lunged at him and he turned away as he half drew his bow (and without aiming) let the arrow go. Only by LUCK did the arrow hit the cat and save his life. Crazy story I know, but true. It always sticks in my head when i'm out in the woods.

Read a story in a hunting or other magazine about a cougar being taken by a buddy of an archery hunting duo, while the cougar was stalking up on his partner.   It wasn't on the internet, so it must be true.

And raise your hand if you thought this thread was going to be a how to on poaching.
