The herd has been whacked in to less than half by wolfs and cats mainly. I've hunted the area for over 20 years and it's getting thin. The local biologist is a total liar about the situation. Just look at the deer road kill number, it used to be over 400 per year and now it's less than 200, there's your study. Anything else is lies.
Just got back from there...Not much being seen at all..
I was successful and had a good hunt, but then again I have a upper hand over most on here. Deer numbers overall are down. If you happen to be where the pack is ranging, you are screwed. I was surprised with numbers of deer in areas that don't normally have them that much. I think its all about adjusting to the wolves in the area. Deer behavior is certainly changing. There are several packs in the valley. Labelling them as the lookout pack by the state is a joke. In reality the lookout pack is made up of several critters in a fairly localized area.
