Nice shot and nice harvest

This past August one of the hunters in WY antelope camp shot a buck above the shoulders right at the top of the spine.  Actually clipped the shoulder blade.  Three days later the buck was killed by another bowhunter as he chased a group of does in to water.  The wound still had scabs, but the goat showed absolutely no ill effects.

Near perfect shots are not what concerns me with this broadhead. Nearly every broadhead ever made would kill reasonable effective on near perfect shots. But shots like the one mentioned on that goat scare the heck out of me.  Thus the reason I will never support the use of Toxic broadheads...EVER!

Radsav I respect what you said. It will be interesting to see how they do with shots that your talking about.

Radsav.  I'm not a supporter or hater of the head, but what makes you so positive another head would have done any different with that goat?  Only out of curiosity do I ask.

My buddies neighbor shot an elk with one this year quartering to him.  Broke the front shoulder and continued on clear till it was nock deep.  Another buddy got a bear last weekend with one but that was a decent broadside shot so nothing special.  Me personally will be probably sticking with my slick trick magnums.  I do like to see new ideas hit the market though.

Problem is we know already from previous models with the same design.  I'm not one to care much about the penetration issues guys are worried about.  Todays bows do not have a penetration issue.  Especially with most adult bows sold in the PNW.  All a bunch of hype about nothing.  But dull blades and meat worms have never been a good combination on marginal or non-fatal shots.

I am really happy you got your deer and had a successful hunt NW-GSP.  Sounds like a great time to me!  So I don't want to be too negative and distract from your fine hunt and great shot.  But from the Serpentine to the Toxic round holes have been bad for animal recovery on non-lethal hits.  So much so it is one of the only personal choice restrictions I would support if they made them illegal.

I do like to see new ideas hit the market though.

Only thing new in this idea is three meat worms instead of one or two as the previous models.

The tissue within the circle is going to die.  In the case of the goat that was a shot where a normal head heals rather quickly.  With any of the circle cut products from past to present the odds of the animal making a full recovery is very slim.  In the case mentioned above the recovery was less than three days with a traditional fixed three blade.

A wound channel is a wound channel regardless of shape.  Put a Toxic and/or a Slick Trick through both lungs or the heart and death results quickly either way.  The sharper Slick Trick blades probably increase that speed of death in most cases, but either way it should be swift.  And we have been blowing through shoulders for years now.  I think the first bear I blew through the shoulder on was back in '83.  I know exactly the date when I did it on an elk for the first time as that was back on August 30, '85 on my first ever hunt with Duke Savora.  That bull was 70 yards away and my bow speed was 225fps.  Back then there was no internet police to arrest us for taking long shots.  It was considered an accomplishment instead of a crime.

I'm headed hunting now.  Again, congratulations to NW-GSP.  Those doe chops look like some mighty fine vittles!

Interesting topic here. Congrats on the doe! I as well took a chance at using these broadheads. Before I made my decision on using them on the field I did my own penetration, fluid, strength, and angle shot testing. These broadheads held up to what I felt would do the job, and some. I shot them out to 140 yrds before season and I can say out of any other broadhead on the market I have shot these broadheads are not swayed by by wind drift nearly as much as others. Needless to say it performed flawlessly on the buck I shot. I shot him at 82yrds and burried the arrown in his shoulder. He went 10 yards and fell over dead. As a deer broadhead I feel you cannot go wrong. I am torn in taking a chance at shooting an elk with them. So for now this is a deer only broadhead and my Magnus stingers will still be my broadhead of choice for elk.
