What, where, when, how, and why?
« on: September 24, 2013, 02:00:02 PM »
Hello,
I recently moved to Vancouver from Salt Lake city.  I am in need of some info to help me get started on my hunting life here.  I am looking for an area to start scouting for the late season hunts (Elk/Deer).  I am not asking for anything special just a starting point to begin looking.  I am a meat hunter and do not particularly need a big rack.  I just have no knowledge of the area at all and have done no hunting outside of Utah.  Any info on good areas to begin scouting around would be much appreciated.

Head east up the Columbia River Gorge and then tun north into the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Miles and miles of roads, wilderness, camps, and hunters but that's a good place to start. Deer, elk, bear, cougar, bobcat, grouse, and turkey.

Welcome!  Gifford Pinchot has tons of area, study the game book and get a good FS map. There's private timber ground north of you, larch mtn area. Quite a few rds to travel up there but it's kinda known as a party spot for locals. What weapon do you hunt with?

I appreciate the comments.   Chris,  I have downed a lot of animals with rifle but I am an avid archer as well. Trusty old recurve.   I am leaning towards the late season archery for both deer and elk so I have more time to scout.

Is the Lewis open for late archery?
