Bull elk

I called this bull in, first time I have ever called a bull in. I got about 8 shots with my new Nikon but I couldn't check the screen because the bull was watching me. Well the camera was on auto focus and focused on the branches in front of the bull leaving the bull out of focus. Makes me sick that I missed these shots, I should of had it in manual focus.

I know the feeling all to well. One of the reasons I picked up a camera. Its a hell of a lot harder to get a good photo of a trophy animal than it is to kill it. Shadows, light, brush etc. Its all part of the fun and I'd like to say it gets easier, but it really doesn't. Thanks for posting for us even though the photo wasn't a complete success. Glad you had the experience.

Glad you're having so much fun Steve! You can learn a lot from those Elknut dvd's but nothing beats getting out and experiencing it first hand. Can't wait to hear the hunt stories.

Cool pic! Changing the contrast did help it out.

I messed with the contrast on the first picture a little bit, I will use it for a screen wall paper for awhile. I had this bull in front of me for about 10 minutes, I would bugle at him as loud as I could, cow talk him with the craziest of sounds and he was as relaxed as could be. But he would not step into the little 10 foot clearing between him and me. Even in dense cover these guys are cautious. Finally he circled around me to catch my scent. I learned a lot playing with this bull.

Cool in the background pic, if that tree had just been rubbed up that would look really cool
