Hoof rot

Any of you guys eaten elk that had hoof rot? I saw a few last year and man I'm tellin' ya, some of those legs looked pretty nasty. I asked the WDFW if they would ticket someone for wasting game meat if they did not want to eat it. There comment in the regs is that the meat is most likely to be safe to eat. MMMM... I don't want mouth rot.

We butchered and ate a cow elk that had a slight case of rot. One of her feet had a weird hoof, but wasn't all that bad. The meat from her has been really good.
An elk that is really far along with hoof rot, I don't know if I'd eat it. If it smelled nasty, I wouldn't eat it.

Weve ate a lot of them. So have several friends.
I prefer hunting elk with hoof rot. Easier to catch up to.
Just kidding.

I killed one last year that had it, but not too bad. Meat cut good, and no difference in taste. I will probably get another one this year, since I have a Margaret cow tag, and 2nd elk tag in Toledo. Odds are I will run across one.

Ate quite a few of them and never had any problems with taste or texture.
