gps help

I'm thinking about getting a gps and hunting gps maps, WA chip. I have never owned a gps and don't wanna spend tons of money on one. Do you guys have any recommendations what to get and what not to get, any info helps?Thanks

I have a garmin 62sx, great gps, never had any problems. Easy to use, long battery life and not to heavy.

i would recommend the extrex 30 or the gpsmaps 62 series

I have the Garmin Legend CX it is older (5 years +) but I am still using it and it works well with Mapsource.  You just choose the maps you want and upload them to your gps.  You can also transfer marked spots to your mapsource on your computer.  It isn't as fancy as the new touch screen models and 3d stuff, but very functional and easy to use.

Last time I remember a discussion of this topic, the 60csx was ridiculously expensive!  With that budget, I recommend the oregon series for touch screen and then the 62 for buttons.

I purchased the garmin 62sc this year and love it.  It is spendy but well worth it.  GPS was 399 and chip was 100.  I am not sold on the chip and actually use a free map download more.  Do not buy any garmin with the topo maps already on them......they use a large scale map that is garbage for the the money.  I didn't want a touch screen cause I hunt in all types of weather and sometimes where gloves.  The 62 series is pretty easy to use.

The 60 series was great but is discontinued. The 62 series is a good replacement. The letter after 62 designates extra features. The 62S has a barometric altimeter and magnetic compass. The T models have built in topo maps. The C models have a built in camera.

Most of these gadgets can be replaced with better, cheaper solutions. The hunting gps maps have topo. Your digital camera is probably better. Altimeter and magnetic compass are ok but you can get a $20 compass that will outperform the built in one.

A good price for the 62s is around $300. Cabelas runs them on sale several times a year.

i would at least spring for the S model. a 3 axis compass is alot nicer than 2 which is about useless. imo
