Finney Creek area? My first deer hunt
« on: October 15, 2013, 07:13:36 PM »
I'm planning to head up the Finney creek area (GMU 437) This weekend for a quick trip and next weekend with my brother in search of Blacktail. I am living on Orcas Island right now. (I should add here that I am not a hippy) and used to live in Skagit, so this area seems closest. I have read regs over and over, done hunters ed, and have my license/tag. Will be shooting my 308. I plan on hiking in quite a ways from other posts I've read on here. What I'd like to know is:

Am I wasting my time up there? Are there any general areas I should focus my efforts?

My brother and I will have a great time no matter what happens but putting meat in the freezer after my first hunt would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any info on the area!

Thanks! Good to know they are around, I've been getting ready for some long walks/hauls!

Why not harvest one on Orcas?  Lots of deer on the island.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I will try to do that if I strike out over there, but part of the trip is just to get out there and spend some time in the woods. It's all private land out here, so most of the hunt is finding a property owner who will let you take one.
