Yeah, definitely a little guy.

I stopped by a guy's house near Colville last year that had several 3-point whitetail racks (excluding eyeguards) that would fit in the palm of your hand...like a 6-inch outside spread.  Wonder if those were just really really poor genetics, or just 1 1/2 year bucks that grew a third tine?  Didn't have the bodies around, so don't know anything about the body size, face, etc.  Was just strange to see three tines on such a small frame.

the body size of my tiny deer was average...not overly small anyway. on his right side he had 2 points plus a browtine, on his left side he had 3 points and no brow.
if i had to make a call, i would say poor genetics...it certainly was not for a lack of food/vitamins/etc...he was living in wheat/crp country with plenty of water to be had.

I was just re-reading this thread and remembered the smallest bodied buck I'd ever seen...a spike coues whitetail my buddy shot during January's archery season in AZ.  Any coues buck with a bow is a trophy...but let's just say he's a stickpole of a guy and picked this thing up with one hand by it's hind feet.  Rabbit style.   :chuckle:

Smallest I've seen was a buck fawn whitetail my buddy steve killed - had sharp, bare bone spikes about 7/8" long.  It was a mercy killing - it had a wire snare cinched tight around it's head, from a fenceline coyote set I suspect.  The fact that he did a good thing did not keep us from razzing him!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
