Huge Cascade Blacktail Down (pics)- 4x3 with eyeguards
« on: October 24, 2013, 06:27:21 AM »
This past weekend I finally connected on a Big Boy. I've never killed one even close to this size.

I shot him just before last light after a 3 hr sit. 5 or 6 does popped out of the reprod 200 yards below me then this guy came out chasing. I had some serious buck fever on this one. He was shot not far from the B&C blacktail boundary but on the wrong side of the line. Green score is 135 1/8 gross, 126 net.

He was taken in the same clearcut I've seen 5 bears in in this year, including the one I shot in August, so I decided to pack him out solo that night as I didn't want to donate one to the critters. It was a little bit creepy but rewarding.  I didn't get back to camp until midnight.

I had a multi-season tag and had passed on many deer earlier in the year including a decent 2x3 blacktail with my bow at 10 yards, which in a normal year, I would have taken without hesitation. Glad I waited.

Nice buck.
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

Perfect example of putting your time in and letting the little ones go.   Well done.
