A few weeks ago, one of the kids asked why I like to hunt coyotes, I told him why, then asked if he wanted to go. Out the door this mornin at 6, he was draggin. First set nothin I figured with the wind we wouldn't have any luck. Second set 2 min into it a big male came in in hot at maybe a 100, Lane right there, Lane ya see him? Lane right there!! No wait! Move slow & get on him. So he yanks the gun up. This dog is gunna come up & kiss him, I stop him at about 15 yds. Shoot him Lane!! After about 10 sec. the dogs knows its a bad deal & runs. Lane...shoot him! He pulls his gun down so I jump up & run to the other side of him to shoot, just as he goes behind some brush at 75yds. I get him in the front leg. I asked why he didn't shoot and I got the "my scope was on 9X.. I didn't say anything, just figured he taught himself a lesson. We go to get him & he hobbled off so we track him,  I step by a bush lookin for blood not a dog. Looked back down & here's this dog at my toes lookin up at me. After I filled my drawers & jumped back I had the kid come over & finish him off. A smile from ear to ear & big hi five from Lane made it all worth it. Took pics, called mom, just excited as could be. He said he wanted to to take him home so I pack him back to the pick up about a 1 1/2 away. 30lb dog but seemed like a 100 by the time we got there. I asked him if he liked it, I got a ya, can we go out tomorrow morning? I asked him why he likes coyote huntin, "cause its fun"!

Also, that area north of the Potholes, and south of I 90 is public land, too, and I KNOW there's coyotes there!

Where is the hatchery ?

East off of HWY 17, about half way between Soap Lake and the junction of 17 and 282, the Moses Lake-Ephrata highway.  There's a gravel road called Hatchery Road NE.  The sage west of the hatchery looked like good coyote calling country.  We found it one day when we were looking for Black Hole Weaponry's facility.

I know where that is at.

I want to go to Black Hole myself. Do they allow  or give tours ?
I emailed them yesterday, but haven't heard back.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Went out today and had a great time.  The wind may have been a factor as it caused Lil Gringo to miss a pretty easy shot.  I was able to bat clean up and pick that mangy dog up on the run....  Lil Gringo batted clean up for me and finished on off that was missing a leg.  The two dogs we are holding are 35# and 37#'s.  They looked bigger!  The mangy one is the one Lil Gringo missed.  I ended up with three...

I also have a pic of a dog SWAG shot.  +5 for team dogpile.

Well went out early this morning and tried something new which involved walking about 10 miles cross country. Second stand in we got one and then many more stands to have nothing come in. We seem two more while walking and one of them I shot (I swear!) but after excessive searching the tall grass we have up! Really sucked because I heard the smack and watched him flip!! O well that's how it goes. Hopefully next time I can do more shooting and less hunting. Lol

Love hearing the stories of kids getting their first animal and how excited they are. Makes it all worth it knowing our way of life will continue!

I emailed them yesterday, but haven't heard back.

I don't think they are still in Moses Lake.  I heard that they got PO'd at the local government and packed up and moved to Oregon.  The last barrel I got from them, a 6mmX6.8SPC, came from Oregon.  They used to be right off of the Stratford road, on road 10.  Just a big machine shop out in the middle of nowhere.  You can check, but I don't think they are there any more--
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
