My sons first buck
« on: October 25, 2013, 09:18:29 PM »
:IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:  Not much of a story other than this could be the coolest (and tiniest) buck I have taken.  Till this day I have never shot a spike, but did so tonight and I am loving it.   My wife took the daughter to soccer practice and I asked the little man what he wanted to do and his honest to god answer was "lets go hunting."  I haven't taken him yet (he just turned 3) and thought tonight would be a good night to go for a drive.  We get up to the area that I have literally hunted my whole life and brought him to spots he could get out, carry his toy gun, and use my binos to look for bucks. I would ask if he has spotted any bucks yet and he would reply "not yet dad."  Well he decided that he was ready to head out so I told him it was a good idea.  We got about 1/2 mile from the gate and came around the corner and there he was in the road (logging) about 30 yards from my truck.  My sons yells, "Is it a buck," and as soon as I saw it was I knew I was gonna do what I could to make this happen.  I waited for the buck to get back in the brush, went up to were he went in and told my son to just sit and watch me.  I went in the brush but not out of sight of him and saw the buck standing broadside looking at me.  One shot and it was over, and my son got to see the whole thing from the front seat of the truck.  This is the only scenario that could of possibly happened that a 3 year old could of watched his dad from the safety of the truck.  He was JACKED UP and was so pumped to help.   Very cool experience to say the least.

The "not much of a story" part was meant to be sarcastic.  And you are right, nothing short of awesome.  So glad it all came together

That was great!  I had my daughter with me years ago and passed on a spike.....but I wished I had taken it for her sake to see it all go down!

If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?
