Sinlahekin GMU 215 Late Whitetail Buck
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:21:47 AM »
My 77 year old dad finally drew the late white tail tag he has put in for after 10 years of trying!!!
He knows there area but the last few scout trips have been proof that the deer know where the private land is! After a few rejected Door Knocks I am asking my friends here at HuntWashington for any leads.
Any info will be helpful and greatly appreciated.  Thanks alot

Congrats on the tag, you would think that 10 years worth of scouting and door knocking would have produced a decent place to hunt when he finally drew his tag.

He's just stating a relavent point. :dunno:  Anyhow, with this tag ending in the rut, I'm sure if you can find an area of private with public land bordering, you will have no problem filling a tag.  Get some good mapping of what's public, as there is a lot of pieces that are scattered which will hold whitey bucks.  Also, don't expect anything great as far as horns go.  Have a good time with your dad, and good luick.

That comment right there just ruined your dad any advise I was about to give.  Ease up a little....it was a very valid point and you took it to the next level.   :dunno:

Congrats on the tag. Had that tag last year. Had no problem finding whiteys on public land. Passed on a couple small buck early and ate the tag. Had hopes of some bigger bucks but never saw any

There is a TON of public land up there. First the unit is named after a massive WDFW area plus there is national forest , DNR and other access opportunities. Looking at this I'd say over 75% of that unit is public land.

Actually I read it as 10 years of putting in for the tag and finally drawing.  His dad knows the area but has only been scouting and knocking on doors since he drew the tag.  Not 10 years of knocking on doors.

I think the reply to original post was based on not comprehending what was said and shouldn't have been thrown out in an attempt to be clever.

Thanks for replies, Mike450r you are correct and I was a little shocked by the "clever reply" but    Thank you to the other members for the input!!

What we really need is some access to the Circle Irrigation fields with the alfalfa laying in them !!  The big bucks are pretty smart and know where the safe zones are, of course SNOW would help too.   I know my dad will give it all he has for a nice white tail, I am just glad to see he still gets out in the woods and enjoys spending time doing something he loves it at his age.
Thanks again and keep the replies coming it all helps....

Based on his tag (permit 1106) and looking at aerial maps it looks like there a 2-3 circle crops in this entire unit. Did you hit up those farms?

No sense in asking permission for any of the circle crop fields.  You won't have any luck, as they are leased by guides.
