Phool are there many BMA's/ BLM area's in that part of Montana? I'm not sure where I would go next year, but the wife likes Bozeman, so I was thinking somewhere near there.

A lot more public land in that area than where I hunt. The SE is 95% private but does have some block management areas.

phool,
I just received a report from some of our crew who went over to SW MT for the opening week, 4 elk down (1 OK 5pt, 2 rag horns, and a cow). They are in Broadus now with 17 deer/antelope tags and 3 turkey tags (note: some are locals and have multiple tags). I can almost smell all that powder burning now. Blacktail135 is with them, I hope he has a camera because I know the rest of them yahoos don't.

WEA300,
At one point, even the NR's could get 6 or 7 doe permits in there this year. They were all gone by the opener though, wish I'd had a 2nd. There was a lot of them.

Kirkl,
One of the bucks we shot last Thursday evening was awefully dark and stinky around the tarsals for that early. I'm no expert, just reporting.

Talked to my buddy tonight, he has passed on several more decent bucks, hes in no hurry because Dina has a Antelope buck tag as well and they are concentrating on that unti lthe rut gets going. He said it snowed a little today and is cold but the rut doesnt appear to be going yet, maybe on the verge. Another week should be good to go.

When I go over there I don't even get there until about the 9th or 10th as the rut starts heating up then. Right now the hunting will get a little better every day.
