Had to shoot him.
« on: October 31, 2013, 06:33:47 AM »
Well hunted with my wife's 9 year old last night. He said we had to shoot the first buck we saw because he had never seen a buck shot before. We ended up watching 4 does for about 45 minutes and then this guy came in and started trying to tend to the does lip curling and the whole works like he owned the joint. Needless to say one shot later this monster was down. It was pretty cool to see the boys reaction I'm sure you parents out there know how it goes when a kid gets excited I don't think I got a word in edge wise all the way home with his jibber jabbering lol. He ordered me to boil the skull so he could put it on his bedroom wall. It was a fun night glad it went down the way it did. Sorry for the dark pictures we shot him last light and took him home before we even thought of pictures, I guess I still get excited to!

Horns are over rated.  Experiences are where it's at.  Sounds like it was a good one the boy will remember for ever.  Nice job and enjoy those tender vittles
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Maybe someone can flip that first pic for me I'm not that computer savy. It was definitely worth taking that buck I can remember the first buck I saw my dad shoot when I was young to this day like it was yesterday, it hooked me for life! Hoping it does the same for him.

That's awesome! I still remember my first buck down in Oregon 1959 I think and they had to be 2pt or better, still have the horns on the plaque in my shop. I like seeing kids out with their dads.

The pic with him in the back of the truck says it all....you had no choice in the matter....had to be done. Just like you now have to provide him a cleaned skull for the wall!

Waaaay cool!  Probably wants to know when it's "his turn" now, right?

PathfinderJR saw his first deer killed (a whitetail doe) when he was 6.  We spent 15 minutes crawling up into position for a shot.  As soon as the gun went off he was up and running down to her.  I had to grab him.  He hasn't missed a hunting season since.  I'll warn you though, having to lay there and watch your kid take a shot on a buck (especially a big one) is one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of your life... :chuckle:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
