so right at noon today I come across this blacktail deer at about 120 yards.....I can see with the naked eye it has a bigger body than normal...you know the drill.... bubble back end and you can see the round definition in the front shoulders...put up the binos and its a spike----not your normal blacktail 4" spike this things has spikes that are 10-12" long that curve out behind his ears and come up to about 6" apart....stood there for honestly 2 minutes watching this thing watch me.... really wanted to get a decent racked buck this year as although I do love me some venison my wife got a doe with her bow, my son got a spike with his bow and my hunting partner got a 2 point Tuesday and he doesn't eat a lot of venison so my freezer is getting full.......the longer I looked at it the more I thought about shooting it as to the size of the body but just couldn't pull the trigger......my question is why was he only a spike....obviously he was a couple years old----his horns weren't broken off or anything all he had was spikes as they tapered to a point......is it genetics or ? someone on here has to know something more than I do about the situation
