First try with the new grill
« on: March 01, 2015, 05:49:11 PM »
Tried the new grill I bought last weekend today.  Smoked pork tenderloin was on the menu tonight.  Turned out pretty good for my first try on the new grill.

It turned out pretty good.  The new grill held temp pretty easily without much effort at all so that is also a good sign.

and what is the recipe you used for your tenderloin?

Costco had them on sale last weekend (2.09/#, and then $2.50off rebate) so I bought a 8.5# one.  Never done a tenderloin on the grill/smoker..

Sounds like you got a loin, not a tenderloin. Both good stuff, but also lean, and I'd think more suited to a quick grill than a long smoke.

I got a Brinkman Smoke 'n Pit from Home Depot.  It's nothing super fancy but a good starter grill.  Iv'e always used propane and it was time for a new grill one way or another.  Since I have been wanting a smoker as well it was the logical choice.  So I spent less on the charcoal BBQ/Smoker combo than I would have a decent propane BBQ.

For the rub I used a pre mixed KC masterpiece seasoning and a little of a different BBQ seasoning I picked up outside of Quincy. Just used a straight dry rub for this one.  Turned out really juicy inside with a nice smoky layer outside. The seasoning was one I hadn't tried yet and it was ok.  Not the best Iv'e used but not bad.
